Did you know that over 80% of women are deficient in magnesium, and this can exacerbate the symptoms of menopause, especially poor sleep, restless legs, anxiety and headaches.

We have created a gorgeous skin balm, which if applied as directed, will give you approximately 2/3 of your recommended daily dose of magnesium, directly through your skin, bypassing your digestive tract for more efficient absorption.

This blend of essential oils combines the grounding and calming properties of Patchouli, Vetiver, and Cedarwood with the soothing effects of Lavender and the uplifting qualities of Ylang Ylang and Frankincense.

Lavender is widely recognised for its ability to enhance relaxation and sleep. Vetiver's deep, earthy aroma is known for its grounding effects, helping to stabilise emotions. Patchouli and Cedarwood contribute warm, woodsy notes that promote a calming atmosphere, while Frankincense and Ylang Ylang add a touch of uplift and spiritual balance.

Together, these oils create a harmonious blend that encourages deep relaxation, reduces stress, and can help to support a restful night's sleep.

Before purchasing and using this balm, please make sure that you have read the sections:

Why this balm may help you

Why this balm may NOT help you.

Why the balm may help you

What do you need magnesium for?

Magnesium is required for over 350 enzymes to work properly in your body.  And yet it is usually the most overlooked nutrient by doctors.

It is very hard to test for a magnesium deficiency.  This is because 60% of your magnesium is in your bones, 20% in muscle, 19% in soft tissue.  Just 1% is in your blood.  And if your blood becomes depleted, then up to 30% of the magnesium in your bones can act as a top up for your blood.

So a blood test could show that you have plenty of magnesium in your blood (where just 1% is), but your body could be very deficient.

Signs of a magnesium deficiency

The most common sign, and often the first one you will notice is twitching of your muscles, especially around your eyes, but sometimes on your arms, your fingers or your legs.

This is because your nerves require magnesium to work properly.  When you are deficient, the nerves become more excited creating faster nerve impulses which leads to random muscle contractions or the twitching you might have noticed.

Other common signs of a magnesium deficiency are:

  • Restless legs
  • Poor quality of sleep
  • Anxiety
  • Severe headaches
  • Muscle cramps
  • Fatigue
  • Heart arrhythmias
  • Inflammation in the body.

Why can't you get enough from your diet?

Many of us eat diets high in sugar and refined carbohydrates as well as regularly consuming alcohol.  These can impede the absorption of magnesium.

Also, because of our diets and the environment in which we live, our bodies and guts are often in a state of inflammation which prevents us from effectively absorbing magnesium.

You need good levels of vitamin D in your body to be able to absorb magnesium.  68% of the UK population are also deficient in vitamin D.  And you need sufficient magnesium in your body to be able to absorb vitamin D.  So your body can end up in a cycle of poor absorption when trying to take magnesium orally.

Even when you eat lots of leafy green foods which contain magnesium, many are high in oxalates which reduce your bodies ability to absorb it.  And other foods which again have high levels of magnesium, such as almonds and dark chocolate, also contain high levels of oxalates.

When you boil food containing magnesium, much of it leaches out into the cooking water.

Some diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, osteoporosis and heart disease have a huge association with low magnesium levels.

Why this magnesium balm can be more effective than supplements

There are many reasons why we cannot always absorb magnesium effectively from supplements (tablets).

68% of the UK population are deficient in vitamin D.  You cannot absorb magnesium effectively when you are short in vitamin D.

However, applying magnesium to the skin in the form of a balm or cream bypasses the gastro intestinal system and it is absorbed directly through the skin into the local tissues.

Topical application can be an effective way to deliver magnesium directly to specifically areas of the body without the need for vitamin D to help it.

If your gut is in poor health it can affect your ability to absorb magnesium from supplements.  If you suffer from Crohns disease, celiac disease, or diarrhoea, you will struggle to absorb magnesium taken orally.

Certain medications such as antacids, diuretics, antibiotics, medications for osteoporosis and antiviral drugs can make it hard for your gut to absorb magnesium.

Why the balm may NOT help you

You may be suffering from restless legs, poor sleep, anxiety etc and have read the glowing reviews about this balm and assume that it will definitely help you.  Then you try it and don't notice much difference.  So why could that be?

The first and most obvious cause is that you may not actually be deficient in magnesium, you could be one of the 20% of the population who has plenty in their body.  If that is the case, then more magnesium won't make much difference to you as your body can't store it and any excess will be excreted naturally.

Your symptoms may be due to a completely different cause rather than low magnesium levels.

Your poor sleep may be due to many different causes, such as:

- anxiety caused from stress or an overactive mind

- a raised cortisol level which increases your anxiety

- low levels of vitamin B1 - this can result in your mind overthinking things at night, problem solving and not being able to quieten your thoughts down.  A diet too high in carbohydrates, coffee and tea can deplete your B1 levels.

- low melatonin levels and its precursor - low tryptophan levels.  Melatonin is inhibited by blue light (from electronic screens), so that advice you hear about turning off your devices a couple of hours before bed is a good idea to follow.

- hormonal changes such as those that occur during and after the menopause can affect your sleep quality and increase other symptoms such as anxiety.

restless legs an also be due to low levels of vitamin B1.  If you are also deficient in magnesium the balm will help a certain amount, but you might also need vitamin B1 supplements.

This is not medical advice, always consult your doctor before taking any medications or supplements.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT this balm will only help people:

Firstly with a low magnesium level (which is about 80% of women approaching or going through the menopause).

And secondly, it will only help reduce or relieve symptoms that are caused by a magnesium deficiency.  It isn't a magic cure all balm.  If your symptoms are caused by other factors, no amount of magnesium will help.

How to use

Once per day, apply a 2-5g portion, which is a teaspoon or a small sized grape, directly to your legs, tummy, back or shoulders.  Do NOT apply to your face or neck.

Rub in well until fully absorbed.

You can apply a little more balm if you think you are chronically deficient of magnesium, but as the body cannot store it, any excess will be excreted.  When giving a suggested application, we are taking into account that you are highly likely to be getting some magnesium in your diet.
